ABSTRACT

Objective To explore the retrograde contamination of drainage bag outlets, and provide basis for the formulation of related guideline for healthcare-associated infection(HAI)management. Methods On October 14,2016,with sterile manipulation,urine,5% glucose solution, glucose normal saline, sterile water, and 0.9% nor-mal saline were injected into anti-reflux drainage bags(anti-reflux group)and common drainage bags(common group)respectively, entrances of bags were sealed and bags were hung in two ways:outlets were 10 cm away from the ground(suspended group)and touched the ground(ground-touching group)respectively, specimens were col-lected from bag outlets to perform bacterial culture every 3 days,a total of 10 times of cultures were performed,re-trograde contamination of drainage bag outlets was observed dynamically. Results Retrograde contamination rate of drainage bag outlets of anti-reflux group was significantly lower than common group(7.7% vs 46.0%,P=0.000);suspended group was significantly lower than ground-touching group(17.9% vs 35.8%,P=0.000). Retrograde contamination rates of outlets of drainage bags filled with different properties of liquid were as follows:urine (54.3%)>5% glucose solution(34.5%)>glucose normal saline(24.3%)>0.9% normal saline(10.8%)>ste-rile water(10.5%),pairwise comparison showed a significant difference(P=0.000).The initial occurrence time of contamination in anti-reflux group and common group was on the 13thday and 7thday respectively, two group was significantly different on the 7thday(P=0.041). There was a medium intensity correlation between the types of drainage bags and liquid properties(PearsonC=0.5).Conclusion Different types of drainage bags, retention time, and liquid property can impact retrograde contamination of drainage bag outlets, regular urine culture during the use of drainage bags should be paid attention in clinical practice,so as to use antimicrobial agents rationally and guide replacement time of drainage bags.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVETo study the changes of hypothalamus metabolism in patients with psychogenic erectile dysfunction (ED) so as to get some clues to the possible pathogenic factors and pathophysiological mechanism of the problem.

METHODSSix cases of psychogenic ED and 4 normal volunteers were studied by positron emission tomography (PET) for the characteristics of hypothalamus glucose metabolism. Following audiovisual sexual stimulation, the concentration of fluorine-18-fluorodeoxyglucose (18 F-FDG) was determined and the ratio of the left (right) hypothalamus count to the cerebrum count was calculated.

RESULTSAudiovisual sexual stimulation significantly increased 18F-FDG in the volunteers (left: 1.026 +/- 0.115 vs 2.400 +/- 0.210; right: 1.003 +/- 0.187 vs 2.389 +0.196, P < 0.05) as compared with the psychogenic ED patients (left: 2.781 +/- 0.156 vs 2.769 +/- 0.223; right: 2.809 +/- 0.129 vs 2.793 +/- 0.217, P > 0.05).

CONCLUSIONPsychogenic ED may not be simply a functional disease; the hypothalamus may be involved in the pathophysiology of the problem.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVETo investigate the central modulating mechanism of acupuncture at Sanyinjiao (SP 6) in treatment of primary dysmenorrhea.

METHODS18F-FDG positron emission tomograph imaging of whole brain was performed in six patients with primary dysmenorrhea during two stimulation: pseudo acupuncture and real acupuncture at Sanyinjiao (SP 6). The areas of cerebral glycometabolism change were obtained by using statistical parametric mapping (SPM). Meanwhile the pain intensity before and after pseudo-acupuncture and real acupuncture was assessed with 0-10 numerical pain intensity scale.

RESULTSNo differences in the values of pain before and after pseudo-acupuncture (P > 0.05). The value of pain after acupuncture was significantly lower than that before acupuncture (P < 0.01). Most of the activated brain areas were shared with the areas activated by pain as described in the literature. The brain areas of increasing glycometabolism were ipsilateral lentiformn nucleus (globus pallidus, putamen), cerebellum and insula, bilateral thalamus, ipsilateral paracentral lobule, bilateral amygdala, contralateral midbrain, bilateral second somatosensory cortex, ipsilateral hippocampus and anterior cingulate, contralateral mammillary body. The brain areas of decreasing glycometabolism were limited in small cerebral cortex.

CONCLUSIONAcupuncture at Sanyinjiao (SP 6) can relieve significantly the pain of the patient. Primary dysmenorrhea is cured mainly by activating the area involved in pain. It is indicated that acupuncture can relieve pain and balancing the pain-related central networks. Also neuroendocrine may play a role in the therapy.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVETo investigate the feasibility of (99m)Tc-transferrin ((99m)Tc-Tf) as an transferrin receptor imaging agent in nude mice bearing human hepatoma SMMC-7721 tumor.

METHODSBiodistribution of (99m)Tc-Tf in Balb/c mice was assayed, and transferrin receptor imaging in Balb/c nu/nu nude mice bearing human hepatocellular carcinoma SMMC-7721 xenografts was carried out, with or without inhibition of transferrin receptor with unlabeled transferrin. The receptor radioligand binding assay with (125)I-transferrin as ligand was established, and the number of receptors per cell and the K(d) were worked out.

RESULTS(99m)Tc-Tf was mainly distributed in the liver, blood and kidneys. At 18 h post injection, the ratios of tumor/blood, tumor/liver and tumor/muscle were 24.2, 1.7 and 35.5, respectively. The ratio of tumor uptake at 18 h without unlabeled transferrin pretreatment to that with pretreatment was 16.3. The number of receptors per cell was 2.4 x 10(5) and the K(d) was found to be 4.46 nmol/L.

CONCLUSIONAll those results indicate that (99m)Tc-Tf is specifically localized in tumor lesions of nude mice. (99m)Tc-Tf may be useful in detection of hepatocellular carcinoma.
